Max has engaged in a wide variety of high-profile projects for companies such as Rosetta Stone, National Geographic, BBC, Discovery Channel, AARP and AOL. He has been considered an industry innovator ever since his designs for the first consumer video-on-demand system burst onto the scene in the mid-90's. As one of the lead creative forces in a telco joint venture poised to change how consumers get video programming, he designed everything from the award-winning broadcast identity systems to the elegant on-screen user interfaces. Later, as the web began hatching new industries, he co-founded his own digital design agency, CO2 Media, which became one of the leading digital design agencies on the east coast. After several years, he realized he was spending much more time running a business than designing products, so he made the move back into hands-on design as Creative Director in AOL's Experience Prototyping lab. After five years of leading strategic design initiatives and iterative prototyping, visualized solutions that inspired the organization to innovate upon all aspects of the service, he struck back out on his own in 2008 and formed Black Mercury with John Stewart. At Black Mercury he serves as Design Director and Principal and continues to provide award winning brand strategy and interaction design. He’s loves to hike & camp, listen to a plethora of music, take photos and plan the next outdoor adventure when he’s not being a dad.
